This Custom Basement Entrance was designed by an Engineer. We were contracted to build it as per the Engineered drawings. First we had to excavate approx. 10 feet deep so that we can install all new footers under the existing footers of the house (this is called underpinning). Once this was completed, we could construct our Custom Basement Entrance.

We cut the existing foundation wall to accommodate the double acting french patio door. The foundation for the new walls were formed and poured. The walls were constructed with 12″ cinder block which was filled solid with concrete. The buried sides of the walls were waterproofed and the exposed sides of the walls were wired and stuccoed. Then “brownstone” caps were installed on top of the walls. Then we installed the aluminum fall protection railings and the handrail. The stairs are 8′ wide and have brownstone treads.
